Police investigate series of distraction burglaries in Bognor
A number of items of jewellery were taken from homes in the town been 19th March and 24th April
Officers investigating a series of distraction burglaries in Bognor are seeking to return these stolen items to their rightful owners.
At least 12 incidents which occurred at properties in the town between 19 March and 24 April have been reported to police.
On each occasion, elderly occupants have been targeted, and items including cash and jewellery have been stolen.
A number of these items have since been recovered, and police are urging anyone who recognises these items as belonging to them, or anyone with information about these incidents, to come forward.
Following enquiries, officers arrested and charged a man with two recent offences in the town on 16 May and 17 May.
James Beaney, 45, of Gravits Lane, Bognor Regis, is charged with burglary and trespassing with intent to steal.
He appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 20 May, where he was remanded in custody to appear at Portsmouth Crown Court on 17 June.
Detective Inspector Alan Pack said: “I would like to remind people to always check the identity of any callers, especially if they are unexpected. No professional will mind waiting outside whilst you make a call to confirm their identity and police officers will always show their warrant card.”
