Police have closed their investigation and released a man without charge after a 10-year-old boy fell from cliffs near Brighton.

The youngster was airlifted to hospital with serious injuries following the fall at Ovingdean on September 24th last year.

He required treatment at St George's Hospital in London, but in a statement Sussex Police said that he is expected to make a full recovery.

They have described what happened as a 'tragic accident as a result of misadventure' following a 'thorough' investigation.

A 52-year-old man from Oxfordshire was arrested on suspicion of allowing a child to come to serious physical harm, but police now say no further action will be taken against him.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said:

"We would like to thank all the members of the public who came forward to assist with this investigation and those who administered life-saving first aid to the child in the immediate aftermath."
