Twenty-three jobs will be created if plans to set up a brewery and canning factory in Shoreham-by-Sea are approved.

An application asking permission to change the use of the Pyroban warehouse, in Dolphin Road, has been submitted to Adur District Council by The Laine Brewing Company Ltd.

A planning statement included with the application said:

“Excepting microbreweries, there are currently no significant breweries in Adur district. The introduction of a brewery here is therefore a benefit to the economic diversity of the district.

“The proposal would allow a successful local company to invest, expand and adapt to support economic growth and productivity.

“The brewery and canning facility would provide for 20 full-time and three part-time jobs.”

The brewery would produce craft beer for the Laine Pub Company, which has more than 50 pubs across the South East.

If the application is approved, four 8.3m high beer tanks and two 9.8m high bulk malt silos would be installed alongside the warehouse, as well as a 3m high chiller, and a 4m high CO2 tank enclosed by a 1.8m high metal security fence.

The dropped kerb from Dolphin Road would be widened to make more room for lorries to get to and from the site.

This would mean the loss of 20 parking spaces, leaving only 15 spaces and a covered cycle store for six bikes.

To view the application, log on to the council's website here and search for DM/0597/21.
