Pair who burgled house in Goring while owners were on holiday jailed
They stole two registered shotguns and cash that was being saved for the victims' children
Two men who burgled a house in Goring while the owners were on holiday have been jailed.
John Brooks, 49, of Selden Road, Worthing; and 43-year-old, Anthony Micallef, of no fixed address, targeted the property in Goring Way on August 12th, stealing several items, including bikes, cash for the victims’ children and two registered shotguns.
A vigilant neighbour reported the disturbance to police after seeing the family’s truck missing from their drive with the front door wide open.
Knowing the pair were then in possession of firearms, armed police located and stopped their vehicle in Shoreham.
Brooks and Micallef were charged with burglary, and later sentenced to a total of four-and-a-half-years in prison.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Rick Brown, said: “Thankfully in this case the offenders were quickly apprehended, and the majority of the stolen property was recovered thanks to excellent work by different departments within Sussex Police.
“The impact on the victims of these crimes cannot be underestimated, especially when there are children involved.
“The length of the sentences reflects how these matters are taken seriously by the police and courts, and my sincerest hope is that this will help the victims find some closure and be able to move on with their lives.”
