A man and a woman from Worthing have been arrested following an international fraud investigation.

They are among four people who have been questioned on suspicion of fraud by false representation.

The arrests are in connection with the use of a website which allowed users to buy services with cryptocurrency, enabling them to impersonate the phone numbers of legitimate institutions and persuade victims to pass on their details for fraudulent use.

Electronic devices, cash and cryptocurrency was also recovered as part of the investigation.

All four suspects have been released on bail until February.

Detective Inspector Tom Bradshaw, from the South East Regional Organised Crime Unit (SEROCU), said: “These arrests demonstrate our commitment to proactively tackling fraudsters across the South East region.

“By working in collaboration with the Metropolitan Police Service, national and international law enforcement partners, we continue to play our part in identifying and disrupting those who defraud victims of millions of pounds every year.”
