Police are appealing for witnesses following disorder at a funfair in East Sussex, which led to nine teenagers being arrested.

Officers were attacked by a group of young people at the event in King George Field in Mayfield on Saturday night (September 16th), needed to use incapacitant spray in an attempt to defend themselves.

One needed hospital treatment for a serious cut to their face.

They had been called to the site following a request for help from the private security firm who were responsible for safety at the event.

The teenagers were detained on suspicion of offences including assault of an emergency worker, public order offences and failing to comply with a dispersal order.

Six have been released on bail with conditions not to return to the area, while the other three have been de-arrested.

A dispersal order, put in place in the area to prevent groups from gathering and committing offences, remained in place as of Sunday night.

Inspector Matt Chapman from Sussex Police said:

"We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed the incidents in Mayfield on Saturday night or has any information about those involved.

"We will have a continued police presence in the area and the dispersal order will be enforced as necessary."

Any witnesses should report online or ring 101 quoting serial 1172 of 16/09.
