The Mid Sussex District Council plans to submit a planning application for the construction of an 8.6-hectare Centre for Outdoor Sport in Burgess Hill in June.

The Centre will complement the existing sports facilities and will include various sports amenities such as football, rugby, cricket, running, and a play area.

Over 500 people attended a public engagement event at the Triangle and gave their feedback, which will go into a Statement of Community Involvement for the planning application.

The Centre’s main facilities are expected to be ready for use in June 2024, and the project is considered ‘exciting and ambitious’ by the Deputy leader John Belsey.

The project, which costs £6m, is expected to bring ‘huge benefits to the district’, according to Robert Salisbury, cabinet member for planning.

Drainage will be newly installed to address the drainage concerns raised by the public.

Leader of the council, Jonathan Ash-Edwards called the Centre an ‘incredibly exciting project’ for the district, emphasizing the importance of having infrastructure coming right alongside new homes and new development.
