Any visitors to Chichester Cathedral over the next few weeks will be able to take in a giant moon exhibition now on display.

Measuring seven metres in diameter, the Museum of the Moon features NASA images of the moon's surface, with each centimetre of the sculpture representing 5km of the lunar surface.

The artwork is accompanied by a programme of events, concerts and late-night openings, delivered by a variety of organisations, including the South Downs Planetarium, Chichester’s Novium Museum and the West Sussex Library Service, encouraging people to celebrate the night skies of Sussex.

Rebecca Lewry-Gray is Visitor Experience Manager at Chichester Cathedral.

She said: "It sounds a bit silly, but the word I keep thinking of is serene. It's a serene object that really encourages people to slow down. Have a moment of reflection, have a quiet moment sitting down listening to the soundscape that’s going on there or reflecting in a different way with selfies. There've been lots of small children with their hands above their heads holding their arms up holding the moon so yeah it's really encouraging people to come in take a moment and slow down really."

It's on display until 14 November and bookings can be made on the cathedral's website.
