An organisation in East Sussex that supports families, parents and children struggling with their mental health has been granted charitable status.

It's hoped Holding Space's new status will help them grow their profile and fundraising efforts to help more people in and around the Eastbourne area.

Founder Hansa Raja-Jones said the charitable status would give further credibility to the work of Holding Space. “Getting charitable status is a big step forward for us. It is a demanding and complex process that ensures we have proper governance in place and a strong support network.”

Hansa set up Holding Space as a result of her own journey caring for a child with mental health difficulties.

“We believe that educating, supporting and empowering families is crucial to the mental health of the next generation, along with early intervention and support..

“No parent should walk this journey alone and in silence when their child is struggling with mental health. We believe that the voice of the parent/child is paramount."

The charity was founded in 2019 and works with local schools, colleges, NHS providers and children's centres in the area.

The team at Holding Space say their vision is to open a mental health & wellbeing centre for families, offering a range of wellbeing exercises like counselling, drama, art, yoga and music.
