Mariah Carey's making her UK comeback at Brighton Pride today - over half a decade after her last performance here.

The pop icon was due to play the festival back in 2020 but COVID restrictions cancelled it.

She joins a star-studded lineup across the weekend, with the likes of local legend Fatboy Slim and girl group Sugababes also taking to the stage in Preston Park.

The event's managing director, Paul Kemp, said he's "excited to have Mariah with us": "I'm not actually on TikTok, but apparently there was a post on TikTok saying she's on her way and excited about coming to Brighton.

"It is quite bizarre. Mariah on Preston Park, in Brighton. I mean, it doesn't sound quite right, does it?"

Over the weekend, the event's expected to attract more than 300,000 people into the city, giving the local economy a boost of over 22 million pounds.

Kemp continued:

"With global artists, some people will say, oh, you've lost the meaning of pride.

"Actually, it actually raises the profile if the artists are allies.

"It allows us to celebrate our city. It's something which I think is really important.

"It brings people together."
