Murder investigation starts after 24 year old killed in 'hit and run' in Hailsham

Police say the victim died at the scene in Diplocks Way last night (Saturday 18th November)

A murder investigation has been launched in Sussex, after a 24 year old man was killed in a suspected hit and run collision.

Emergency services rushed to Diplocks Way in Hailsham at around 11pm last night - but the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.

It's understood that the vehicle involved in the collision left the scene and efforts are now underway to identify the driver. Forensics teams are at the site of the crash with cordons and road closures in place in the area.

“This is a fast-moving investigation and we are working around the clock to establish exactly what happened."

We're told that residents can expect to see a heightened police presence in the area throughout the day as investigative efforts continue.

Detective Chief Inspector Andy Harbour said:

“This is a fast-moving investigation and we are working around the clock to establish exactly what happened. There were a number of people in the area around the time of the incident, and I am urging anyone with any information to please come forward.

“Specifically, we are keen to hear from anyone who captured anything on mobile, CCTV or dash cam.

“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the victim at this difficult time.”

Public asked for information and dashcam footage

It's understood that a number of people were in the area at the time of the collision and investigators believe they could hold crucial information.

They specifically want to hear from anyone who may have dashcam footage of the incident or doorbell footage from the scene.
