Police have arrested a driver after a man was hit by a car while waiting at a bus stop on the A270 in Brighton.

The crash, which involved a black Jaguar, happened on the southbound side of Lewes Road at around 11.56pm on Wednesday (September 6th).

The pedestrian, a 24-year-old man from the city, was taken to hospital with serious injuries. He remained there as of Thursday morning.

The Jaguar came to a stop in Barcombe Road, which runs parallel to the dual carriageway.

The driver – a 42-year-old woman from Reigate in Surrey – failed a roadside breath test and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.

She remained in police custody as of Thursday morning.

Sussex Police are urging anyone who saw what happened – or captured it on mobile, dash cam or CCTV – to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting Operation Thimble.
