Sussex Police responded to reports of a disturbance on Monday

A man has been charged with firearms offences after an incident in Brighton.

Sussex Police were called to reports of a disturbance at an address on Dale Crescent on Monday.

Officers arrested a man after finding what was later determined to be an imitation firearm.

Mark Mercer, 38, of Spierbridge Road in Storrington, has been charged with two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence.

He is also charged with theft and assault.

Mercer appeared before Brighton Magistrates Court on 17 July where he was remanded into custody.

He is next due in court on 17 July.
