Man charged over armed robbery at Worthing store

Staff were threatened with a firearm

A man is due to appear in court on Tuesday (December 8th) after being charged following a reported armed robbery in Worthing.

Police were called to Worthing News in Rowlands Road at 6.10pm last Thursday (December 3rd) following a report that staff had been threatened by two men with a firearm.

Sussex Police said that four bottles of vodka and around £400 cash was reportedly taken from the till.

One victim was assaulted and suffered a minor injury.

32-year-old Danny Cobbold, of Winterbourne Close in Worthing, has been charged with robbery, assault thereby causing actual bodily harm and possession of an imitation firearm.

He will appear at Crawley Magistrates' Court.

Police are continuing enquiries to identify a second suspect, described as a tall man with dark brown eyes, wearing a face mask and also wearing all black.

Detective Sergeant Andrew Ricks said:

"Our investigation into this matter is progressing and we continue to appeal to anyone with information to come forward.

"We urge anyone who was in the area around the time of this incident and has CCTV, doorbell or dash-cam footage to get in touch straightaway.

"Please report information to us online or via 101, quoting Operation Everdon."
