Man charged after suspected burglar caught at house in Lewes
The elderly occupant was unharmed and will be receiving support from neighbourhood policing officers
A man has been charged after police caught a suspected burglar in the house of an elderly woman in Lewes.
Police were called by a member of the public, who reported a man trying to break into houses in The Course in the early house of Wednesday morning, May 10.
Officers surrounded a property further down the road from the report, although the elderly homeowner was unharmed.
Anthony Jones, of High Street, Lewes, is accused of two counts of burglary and two counts of fraud relating to a separate incident.
The 30-year-old has been remanded in custody.
Chief Inspector Di Lewis said: “This was great work by our officers, responding rapidly to an emergency call, getting a suspect in custody and protecting a vulnerable woman in under ten minutes.
