Man arrested on suspicion of arson following Worthing flat fire
Residents had to be evacuated in the early hours of yesterday (Monday 26th)
Police investigating a fire at a block of flats in Worthing have arrested a man on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life.
Eight engines from Worthing, Littlehampton, Lancing and East Preston were called to the scene in Eirene Road in Goring at around 2am on Monday (August 26th).
No-one is understood to have been injured in the fire, which led to residents being evacuated.
Sussex Police has said that it is working with partners to ensure that those unable to return to their homes are provided with temporary accommodation.
A 60-year-old man was detained following the incident and remained in custody as of Monday afternoon.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said:
"Enquiries are ongoing, alongside the fire service, into the full circumstances.
"Anyone with any information is asked to contact police online or via 101, quoting serial 87 of 26/08."
