Man arrested following attempted child abduction in Crawley

Police have made an arrest following reports of an attempted child abduction in Crawley.

Officers were called to the Broadfield Community Centre after a man was understood to have picked up a young girl at just before 5pm on Wednesday (April 26th).

The suspect tried to leave the area, but put the child down after her mother challenged him.

The child was unharmed.

Sussex Police said the suspect remained in custody as of Wednesday evening.

A spokesperson for the force said:

"Enquiries are ongoing and we have increased presence in the area.

"We ask that you do not speculate about the incident on social media.

"Anyone with concerns about the incident should speak to one of our local officers or report any information about it online or by ringing 101 quoting 1173 of 26/04."
