Littlehampton skate park finally has grand opening
Upgrades to the park were completed two years ago but poor weather and the pandemic meant the opening event was pushed back
Two years after its completion, the skate park on Sea Road in Littlehampton has finally had its grand opening!
The original opening was delayed back in October 2019 due to poor weather and the rearranged date couldn't go ahead due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Arun District Council worked with Littlehampton Town Council worked together to fund the £200,000 upgrade, along with Sport England.
Josh Lane is part of the skateboarding community Board And Free which teaches newcomers the ropes to the sport.
He was at the event and says it's important to have parks like these readily available to local youngsters.
He said: "We can show them the steps, work on the progression and celebrate the beginners. Celebrate their first kick turn, their first dropping in and here in Littlehampton week in week out there's a crowd of people watching.
"It's kind of like when you watch football and the parents are on the side lines, I've never seen anything like it.
Rachel Alderson, from Arun District Council, said: "Having watched the Olympics I was thinking those young people were bound to be inspired
"I was really hoping to see lots of young people down here and that's proven to be the case"
