Rescue teams have been quick to rescue a dog who got into difficulty off the West Sussex coast.

Lexie the Staffordshire Bull Terrier found herself in trouble after entering the water at East Worthing on Tuesday (November 10th).

Shoreham's RNLI team was called to the scene after Lexie's owner waded out to sea in an attempt to get her out.

They were joined by coastguards from the town and Littlehampton.

Lifeboat teams were able to get Lexie out of the water and transfer her to shore.

A Littlehampton Coastguard Rescue Team spokesperson said:

"The owner did the correct thing in calling the Coastguard.

"We always urge people not to go after animals in difficulty, call 999, ask for the Coastguard and if possible remain somewhere visible (and safe) so rescue teams and your pet can see you."
