All the transport disruptions in Lewes as town braces for Britain's biggest bonfire

The event attracts tens of thousands of people into the town

Transport to and from Lewes is facing huge disruption as the town attempts to control tens of thousands of people expected to take part in Britain's biggest bonfire celebration.

The event, which takes place every year, can attract up to 60,000 people into the town - in an age old tradition marking not only Guy Fawkes' legacy, but also honoring lives lost to conflict globally.

Roads are closing and public transport is stopping to make way for giant political effigies parading through the town in its annual procession.

Residents are urged to get home before 4pm to avoid any disruption.

Here's a complete rundown on how the event's impacting traffic:

Road closures

From 4:45pm, the following roads will be shut:

A27 junction with A277 Brighton Road (Ashcombe Roundabout)

A275 Offham Road with B2116 Plumpton Road

C7 Kingston Road junction with C324 Wellgreen Lane

A26 junction with A2029 Malling Street

A26 Church Lane junction with Church Mayhew Way

They will be re-opened from 2am, at the discretion of Sussex Police and after a clean up operation's taken place.

Train services

Trains will not call at Lewes, Falmer, Cooksbridge, Glynde and Southease from 5pm,with services resuming tomorrow morning.

The last trains back from London Victoria to the above stations will leave at 3.24pm and 3.54pm.

Parking restrictions

Lewes District Council confirmed the following impacts to parking:

Purple Routes: this road will be closed from 4.45pm to 2am. On-street parking is suspended from 12pm, vehicles risk being towed from 2pm.

Blue Route: this road will be closed from 4.45pm to 2am. On-street parking will be suspended from 12pm, vehicles risk being towed from 2pm.

Black Route: westbound traffic only from 4.45pm to 7pm. There will be no access to Lewes from A27 during this time. This road will be closed from 4.45pm - 2am. On-street parking is suspended from 12pm, vehicles risk being towed from 2pm.

Orange Route: this road will be closed from 4.45pm to 2am. On-street parking in authorised bays is permitted.

Green Route: this road will be open to through traffic. On-street parking will be suspended from 12 noon. Vehicles risk being towed away from 2pm.
