People in Sussex are being invited to 'move in hope' for a special charity ride.

A 60-minute Power Hour is taking place at 10am tomorrow (1 January) for The Sussex Snowdrop Trust ‘ride’.

‘Riders’ will consist of cyclists (on indoor spinning bikes and outdoor pedal bikes), runners, joggers, rowers, walkers, dog walkers, dancers, movers and shakers of any age.

The virtual event has been organised by Chichester local Elaine Hart who founded POWER Fitness Events, a new business which launched soon after lockdown.

It supports people through the power of movement, togetherness, positivity and kindness.

Elaine said:

"I am so excited to see so many faces on the screen in front of me, cycling, running, rowing, walking, dancing – all smiling and, all together.

"I encourage everyone to bring a banana to the ride, with or without a motivational or inspirational word, and to embrace the theme of the 'ride' - hope - by dressing in every colour of the rainbow.

"I can't think of a better way to start a brand-new year.

"Eight months ago, I thought my business, POWER Fitness Events, was dead in the water before it had even had the chance to get off the ground.

"Through the power of Zoom, I have been able to bring my vision and my passion to 100s of people."

The 'ride' on New Year's Day will be Elaine's 182nd POWER Online ‘ride’.

Di Levantine, co founder and chair of The Sussex Snowdrop Trust, added:

"We are so excited about 1 January and we are grateful to Elaine for setting this up.

"The symbol of the Snowdrop was chosen for the charity some 28 years ago when it was founded.

"It is a symbol of ‘hope’ and we as a Trust continue to give support, nursing care and hope to our Snowdrop families.

"The families have to overcome so many challenges when looking after their sick child.

"They are very brave.

"The connections in the community who assist in fundraising is vital to us.

"To start 2021 with this positive ‘Ride of Hope’ is fantastic.

"We are delighted that the High Sheriff of West Sussex, Dr Fooks will also participate in this event and we invite others to join in this fun activity too."

Places can be booked online.
