Selsey Coastguard have rescued two people after they'd got their kayak stuck in the mud at Bosham near Chichester.

The casualties were winched to safety yesterday (Sat 16 April) by two Coastguard 'Mud Technicians'.

The Coastguard Rescue service says the kayakers did the right thing by staying in the kayak rather than trying to walk on the mud.

The casualties were placed onto mud rescue stretchers, and winched safely back to shore with their kayak.

Thankfully the two people were ok and no medical assistance was needed. They've been reunited with their family.

SAFETY ADVICE: If you become stuck in mud

* Try to stay calm

* Spread your weight as much as possible

* Avoid moving and call 999 and ask for the Coastguard

If you see someone stuck, don’t try to rescue them yourself, without specialist equipment you can easily become stuck too.

In an emergency out at sea, on the beach or along the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
