An inquest continues today into the death of an Albanian migrant, who was found unconscious in his bedroom a week after being detained at an immigration centre near Gatwick.
The jury heard yesterday that staff at Brook House attempted to resuscitate Alfred Dosku for 43 minutes after finding him on the 9th November 2023.
West Sussex’s Coroners Court was told he was then taken into intensive care at East Surrey hospital, where he was pronounced brain dead a week later.
The 37-year-old had come to the UK to join friends already living here.
Statements from family described the construction worker – who was the youngest of 10 siblings – as always happy and known for his kindness.
The inquest heard from the Assistant Director of SERCO, who are contracted by the Home Office to run services at Brook House, and a healthcare professional who said Dosku seemed “sad and tearful” during his induction there.
He had told staff at the centre that he didn't want to return to Albania.
The inquest is expected to last until Friday.
