Improvements to five West Sussex train stations get underway
They include new information screens and improved waiting rooms
Improvement work is now underway at five railway stations between Southbourne and Chichester.
The improvements, which form part of Southern Rail's Passenger Benefit Fund, include improvements to waiting shelters, refurbished toilets, more seats, information screens, automatic doors, more cycle parking, refurbished waiting rooms, station planters and LED lighting.
£30,000 has been given to Chichester, Bosham, Fishbourne, Nutbourne and Southbourne stations to carry out the work.
All of the stations locally are receiving new or additional seating to improve passenger comfort and defibrillators for safety.
More significant work is planned at Bosham, where there will be new customer information screens, toilet improvements, and some landscaping work.
Improvements at Chichester Station are mostly completed, with refurbished platform toilet facilities and new seating in place.
The remaining stations are scheduled for completion in April this year.
Gillian Keegan, MP for Chichester said:
"This is a welcome investment, and much needed as some of our smaller stations have gone without a refurb for many years.
"We need to continue to invest in our rail infrastructure to encourage more people to travel by public transport when life returns to normal, especially if we’re to meet our ambitious target to be net-zero by 2050.
"I am working with GTR, (Southern’s parent company), and Transport for the South East, to push for improved connectivity along the south coast mainline that links the southern towns and cities, whilst keeping a close eye on the planned improvements to the Brighton Mainline, which we all use to get to the capital.”
