Two thousand properties in East Sussex remain without water this morning (7 May) - after a mains pipe burst five days ago.

Southern Water says those homes in St Leonards and Hastings are unlikely to have supplies restored until midday.

Homes in parts of St Helen’s and St Helen’s Wood, which are normally served by the Fairlight reservoir, are unlikely to see supply restored until lunchtime because the reservoir is not yet full enough.

A spokesperson for Southern Water confirmed:

"Around 26,000 properties in St Leonards and Hastings, which lost water supply after Thursday night's burst water main, have now had mains supply restored, though they may experience reduced pressure for a time.

"As areas are being brought back onto supply Southern Water is redeploying its fleet of 24 tankers to support those areas still without supply.

"Supplies have been assured to enable all schools and colleges in the area to open as normal and this arrangement is currently on track."

Three bottled water stations – at Asda, Tesco and Sea Road - reopened at 8am this morning.

Southern Water apologised for the disruption the outage had caused, “especially over the bank holiday weekend”.

They are warning customers that they may notice their water is cloudy and discolouration can also occur as the water returns to properties.
