A Hove woman has raised over £10,000 for two cancer charities, by swimming the English Channel.

Joanna Stokoe more than doubled her original target of £5,000 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation and Sussex Cancer Fund.

A clinical oncologist, Joanna says choosing the charities was easy. She said: "They The Sussex Cancer Fund supported me through my MD which I did from 2009 to 2011...I see the way the money that people give actually helps patients on a day to day basis, as well as supporting research in Sussex.

"I also chose Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation because a big part of my job is looking after lung cancer patients. Again Roy Castle support lung cancer research but they also provide a lot of patient written information booklets...they're really useful, I think they're useful and I think my patients find them useful".

After taking on such a massive task, Joanna is still recovering at home having had to sprint swim for the last three-and-a-half hours to beat the tide and 20 knot winds, which would've dragged her up past Calais.
