A community worker from Haywards Heath has attended a royal Christmas carol service, as a thank you for her work during the pandemic.
Anna Sharkey attended the ‘Together at Christmas’ carol service organised by The Duchess of Cambridge and the Royal Foundation after being nominated by the Mayor of Haywards Heath, Cllr Howard Mundin, who described her as "an asset" to the town.
She runs the Bentswood Hub, which offers services including support for parents, digital inclusion drop ins and a community café.
The palace said the concert was established to "recognise and celebrate the incredible work of individuals and organizations across the nation who have stepped up to support their communities through the pandemic".
Airing on ITV tonight, the service was led by the Westminster Abbey Choir, before performances from Ellie Goulding and Leona Lewis.
Describing her experiences to us, Anna said: "So they phoned me to tell me about it, but then I was told I was allowed to tell anybody until the official announcement. So I was super super excited, buzzing to tell everybody but couldn't tell anybody.
"Westminster Abbey is so beautiful, I’ve never been before so it really was special and they had children singing carols outside and real reindeer. It was really lovely and special".
