Giant Syrian refugee puppet visits Brighton
Little Amal has travelled to 13 countries to spread the message of hope and solidarity with those seeking refuge
A giant puppet of a ten-year-old Syrian child refugee has made its long-awaited visit to Brighton.
Little Amal, which means ‘hope’ in Arabic, has travelled to 13 countries to raise awareness of the ongoing child refugee crisis.
Hundreds of people gathered along the seafront yesterday evening, March 30th, including families and children, to celebrate the arrival of the 11 ft tall puppet.
Among those there was Fiona Sharpe, co-founder of the Network of International Women for Brighton and Hove.
She said: “I work with refugees and asylum seekers, and I think this city of sanctuary could be doing a whole lot more to ensure the safety of all refugees and all asylum seekers - particularly the children who deserve the same lives as the children we have here, and they all deserve a better life"
Little Amal's next stop is Hampstead Heath, London, at 10.30am tomorrow morning, April 1st.
