The funeral service of a West Sussex based police sergeant who was shot dead by a suspect in a custody centre in London is taking place on Wednesday (November 4th).
Goring-based Matiu 'Matt' Ratana, originally for New Zealand, died from a gunshot wound after the incident at a custody centre in Croydon on September 25th.
He had been attempting to handcuff a police suspect at the time.
Led by the Senior Chaplain at the force, the service, which is taking place in Sussex, will be available to watch on the Metropolitan Police's social media pages at 11.30am this morning.
Among those paying tribute will be the Chief Commissioner of the Met Police, Cressida Dick, along with the Archdeacon of Canterbury and the Reverend Prebendary Jonathan Osborne.
Family, friends, and colleagues are expected to attend the funeral, with members of East Grinstead Rugby Club - where Matt was a coach - also expected to attend.
The socially-distanced service is being live-streamed to allow Matt's relatives in the UK and New Zealand to watch and pay tribute.
