Food waste collections and speed reduction will be discussed during West Sussex County Council
The last meeting of the year takes place tomorrow (Friday).
Food waste collections and speed reduction on the county’s roads will be among the topics discussed during West Sussex County Council’s final full council meeting of the year.
The meeting will be held from 10.30am at County Hall, Chichester, on Friday (December 17) and can be watched via webcast on the council’s website or in person for a limited number.
The agenda will include a notice of motion from Andy McGregor (Con, Lancing) asking the council to seek assurances from government about the costs, timing and funding of food waste collections.
The new Environment Act, which passed into law last month, should bring greater consistency in recycling collections in England, including ensuring weekly separate food waste collections.
Arun District Council is already running a trial collection, with Mid Sussex District Council set to do the same in the spring.
Mr McGregor’s motion calls for the government to clarify when local authorities are expected to start their schemes – and that those who have already done so do not miss out on any funding which might be in the pipeline.
The second notice of motion will be tabled by Dr Kate O’Kelly (Lib Dem, Midhurst).
It proposes a more flexible policy on speed reduction on the county’s roads to allow for 20mph speed limits to improve road safety, air quality and encourage walking and cycling.
