West Sussex fire fighter running London Marathon for charity
Stewart Ellaby is hoping to raise £1,000 for the Fire Fighter's Charity
A West Sussex Fire and Rescue serviceman is hoping to raise at least £1,000 when he runs the London Marathon this Sunday (October 3).
Stewart Ellaby says he'd "love nothing more" than to raise money for the charity, that provides both mental and physical support for fire fighters both past and present.
He said: "For example they offer physiotherapy if you've got an injury and with your mental needs they offer counselling.
"I myself haven't used the charity yet but I do now a lot of people that have used the charity and the benefit it offers.
"That's not to say I won't need to use it in the future. I've attended 14 fatal incidents in the four-and-a-half years I've been a fire fighter and some of them do stick in your head. Up until now I've dealt with it ok but there might come a point where I feel like I need to talk to someone.
"People might look at us as heroes and superheroes and that we don't get affected by anything. But we're only human, just like anyone else".
