Fire at Eastmead Industrial Estate Lavant
Six firefighter crews tackle 'a substantial' blaze
Fire crews from Chichester, Arundel, Midhurst, Worthing and 2 units from Bognor Regis have spent more than 6 hours dealing with a blaze at an industrial unit in Lavant.
The alarm was raised around 6.50pm yesterday evening (Friday 5 March), after a fire broke out at Eastmead Industrial Estate on Midhurst Road.
At the height of the blaze local residents had been advised to keep their doors and windows closed due to the amount of smoke coming from the fire.
The aerial ladder platform from Worthing and an incident command unit from Bognor were sent along with several fire engines.
BUILDING WELL ALIGHT
West Sussex Fire & Rescue said the industrial unit was said to be 'well alight' on their arrival but their crews acted quickly to bring the blaze under control.
They used the aerial ladder platform to help tackle the flames.
A spokesperson for the fire service told Greatest Hits Radio it was a fairly substantial fire, bearing in mind it needed six crews and the aerial platform.
By around 11.30pm the incident was being scaled down with just two crews from Chichester Fire Station remaining on site until just after midnight.
It's not known what caused the blaze. No one was injured or needed to be rescued.
