Fire breaks out at derelict former school building in Eastbourne

Emergency services were called to the old Moira House School buildings earlier this evening

A fire's broken out in a derelict former school building in Eastbourne this evening (19th October 2025).

East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service says it was called to the old Moira House School buildings on Upper Carlisle Road at 17:47 to reports of a derelict building fire.

Sussex Police are also in attendance at the blaze, and say that Carlisle Road and the Link Roads are currently closed as work continues to put out the fire.

Those living nearby are being urged to avoid the area, and keep doors and windows closed.

On Monday (20 October 2025), crews have been continuing to monitor the building and are dampening down.

UK Power Networks have also been in attendance.
