A family of seven from Arundel are taking on a 20-mile trek along the Sussex coast to raise funds for the earthquake appeal in Turkey and Syria.

Catherine and John Bradley, along with their five children aged between five and ten-years-old, will walk for approximately six and a half hours from Littlehampton to Brighton this morning, Saturday 25.

Catherine said: “It was really shocking to hear the news and it’s something that the children had watched so they were very engaged in it as well.

“My husband's got colleagues who are in the region of Turkey that has been affected by the earthquake so his employer is doing a number of things to support people there, but we felt it would be something we could do as a family to try and raise some money.”

The family has done similar walks before – including a fundraiser for Syria in 2015 when their youngest was just six-weeks-old.

So far the Bradleys have raised around £3,000 for the Disasters Emergency Committee.

Catherine added: "Obviously the children are a bit like ‘oh yeah, it's going to be a long way’, but they understand the importance of it, particularly the older children after seeing footage of how lives of children just like them have been affected in these places.

“I think it's important for them to understand that they can help and I think that's the kind of message we really want them to grow up with.

“There's something we can all do, even if that's contributing in a small way.”

Donations for their fundraising walk can be made here.
