Extra lifeguards on duty across Brighton and Hove beaches during summer holidays
The lifeguards will be patrolling the beaches at Saltdean, Rottingdean, Dukes Mound, West Pier and Hove Lawns every day from midday to 6pm
Teams of lifeguards will be setting up stations at five more Brighton & Hove beaches this weekend, as schools break up for the summer holidays.
The lifeguards will be patrolling the beaches at Saltdean, Rottingdean, Dukes Mound, West Pier and Hove Lawns every day from midday to 6pm.
Busiest beaches
These areas, along with the city’s busiest beaches at West Street, Palace Pier West, Palace Pier East and the King Alfred, will have lifeguards on duty throughout the summer until 3 September.
The lifeguards will join Brighton & Hove City Council’s Seafront Team, to help millions of visitors enjoy a safe and enjoyable time on the beach.
Holidays at home
Councillor Alan Robins, chair of the Culture, Heritage, Sport, Tourism and Economic Committee said: “We are delighted to be extending the lifeguard service to five more beaches during the six-week school summer holidays.
“The current cost of living crisis means many more families will be holidaying at home, so it was vital that we were able to provide this vital service and keep residents and visitors safe and happy on our popular seafront and busy beaches.”
Range of skills
Members of the lifeguard team have all successfully completed a beach lifeguard qualification and induction course with our Seafront Team.
They have a wide range of skills from assessing sea and weather conditions and dealing with beach hazards, to carrying out first aid and water rescues.
