Elderly and vulnerable targeted for distraction thefts in Sussex
Victims have reported the crime in Crowborough, Uckfield, Crawley and Haywards Heath
Elderly and vulnerable people are being urged to stay vigilant following a number of distraction thefts across Sussex.
Victims in Crowborough, Uckfield, Crawley and Haywards Heath have had money taken from them after being approached by someone carrying a clipboard saying they are deaf and in need of donations.
The suspects, described as women in their 20s, wait until the victim’s purse is open before distracting them to take more money.
Two of the victims had hundreds of pounds stolen from their car while parked at supermarkets.
Police are urging people to be aware of strangers approaching them and to keep a close eye on any valuables in public.
