Drop in coronavirus patients being cared for at West Sussex hospitals

Figures have gone down by a quarter in a week, according to NHS data

The number of coronavirus patients being cared for in hospitals has dropped by a quarter in a week, according to NHS England figures.

Official data shows the number of people being treated for Covid-19 at the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust by 8am on Tuesday (February 2nd) was 175.

That was down from 234 on the same day the previous week.

The number of beds at the Trust occupied by people who tested positive for Covid-19 increased by 1% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 173.

The trust runs St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham.

Across England there were 27,397 people in hospital with Covid as of February 2, with 3,324 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of Covid-19 patients hospitalised has increased by 4% nationally in the last four weeks, while the number on mechanical ventilators has increased by 40%.

The figures also show that 144 new Covid patients were admitted to hospital at the Western Sussex Hospitals trust in the week to January 31.

This was down from 198 in the previous seven days.
