Driver killed in A27 East Sussex crash

The stretch was closed for more than 12 hours after it happened in the early hours of Tuesday (January 9th)

A driver has died following a crash on the A27 in East Sussex in the early hours of Tuesday morning (January 9th).

The 24-year-old man, from Seaford, was in a BMW car which left the eastbound stretch between Falmer and Lewes at around 3am.

Sussex Police said he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road was closed in both directions for around 12 hours, with emergency crews called to the scene and recovery and forensics investigations taking place.

Both carriageways of the road had fully re-opened as of 3pm on Tuesday.

Two other passengers from Seaford, a 24-year-old man and 19-year-old man. have been taken to hospital with serious and minor injuries respectively.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said:

"The cause of the collision is under investigation and anyone with any information is urged to email collision.appeal@sussex.police.uk quoting Op Romsley.

"Officers are particularly keen to hear from anyone who may have seen the vehicle in the area around that time, or anyone who captured any relevant mobile, dash cam or CCTV footage."
