A dozen new coronavirus deaths recorded at West Sussex hospitals
The total has more than doubled since the start of January
Another dozen patients have died at West Sussex's main hospital trust after testing positive for coronavirus.
NHS England data has shown the deaths were recorded at the Western Sussex Hospitals Trust between January 14th and 27th (Wednesday).
In all, 349 patients have died within 28 days of a positive test at the trust, including 52 in the last week - down from 58 in the seven days before.
It means deaths there have more than doubled in the space of January alone, with 184 being recorded since the start of the month, compared with 165 in the nine months prior.
The trust runs St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham.
The victims were among 9,154 deaths recorded across the South East.
Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.
NHS England guidance states:
"Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."
In total, 1,100 deaths have been recorded in West Sussex where people had a positive coronavirus test result for Covid-19 and died within 28 days of the first positive test in all settings, including care homes, private homes and in hospices.
