Double amputee racing driver Billy Monger to take on triathlon for Comic Relief
He'll be undertaking the massive challenge later this month
Racing driver Billy Monger, who lost both legs in a crash in 2017, is to take on a 140-mile triathlon challenge in aid of Comic Relief.
The 21-year-old from Charlwood, near Gatwick, is looking to complete the task in four days, starting on February 22nd.
He will begin the challenge with an epic hike, all whilst battling the unpredictable British weather, before taking to the water to kayak.
The final leg involves a bike ride and a five-mile walk to the finish at the Brands Hatch motor racing circuit.
In a Twitter video, Billy said the challenge would be his first cycling experience since the crash which changed his life during a Formula 4 race at Donington Park.
In addition, he had never set foot in a kayak before starting training for the event in December.
"Super happy and proud to be involved in such an awesome challenge, it's definitely the toughest thing I've ever had to do, physically and mentally.
"This is going to push me to my limits, but I'm ready to get after it and I'm glad you guys will be able to join my along my way."
Billy has since returned to the track despite his injuries, after appealing to motorsport's international governing body, the FIA, to change its regulations restricting disabled drivers.
He won the Euroformula series Pau Grand Prix in 2019.
