Diver dies after being pulled from sea off Brighton

He was taken to hospital by coastguards but couldn't be saved

A diver has died after being pulled from the sea off east Brighton by a coastguard helicopter.

The man, in his 50s, was airlifted to the Royal Sussex County Hospital after getting into difficult at just before 3pm on Monday (July 8th).

He was pronounced dead there.

Sussex Police said the man's next of kin have been told. Officers are continuing enquiries.

The helicopter was seen landing in East Brighton Park.

A Sussex Police spokesperson said:

"Sussex Police were informed by HM Coastguard of a diver having been rescued from the sea off east Brighton at around 2.50pm on Monday.
