Detailed plans for 1,500 homes on Ford Airfield have been submitted for approval to Arun District Council.

The site of the former Ford Airfield was approved for up to 1,500 homes by the council’s planning committee in April 2022, with the recent reserved matters application detailing plans for 697 homes in two phases.

Another application is seeking approval for infrastructure needed to support the new homes,  such as a new north-south spine road, foot/cyclepaths, public open spaces, bus stops, sewage and surface water infrastructure, play spaces, and acoustic fencing.

According to the plans, the two phases will see around 30 per cent affordable housing and include a mix of 54 one bed, 154 two bed, 320 three bed, 156 four bed and 12 five bed homes, with only 340 homes as part of phase one being submitted for approval so far.

Developers Vistry Group and housing provider Abri bought the site in a joint venture in March, carrying on the approved plans from Redrow Homes and Westgate Developments.

A decision on the plans is due from the council by December 11.
