Firefighters and the RSPCA have been called out to rescue a deer who got himself into a tight situation in West Sussex.

The animal was found, in a state of distress, behind a metal fence on the Birches Industrial Estate in East Grinstead on Friday morning (31 May).

Animal Rescue Office Chloe Wilson attended along with Surrey Fire and Rescue Service. They worked as a team to cut away the fence and free the deer.

Chloe said:

"The deer was a big boy so we have no idea how they managed to squeeze into such a tight gap.

"After we cut the gate away, I checked the deer over and he had superficial wounds, which I treated on the scene before letting him go - he ran off so fast I didn’t get a chance to say bye!”
