Councillors scrutinise Arundel bypass response
Committee members have been left frustrated by a lack of information
West Sussex County Councillors have been left frustrated by a lack of information included in a National Highways report on the proposed A27 Arundel bypass.
Last Thursday (24th), members of the council's communities, highways & environment scrutiny committee met to discuss the council's draft response to the eight-week consultation into the plans.
The issues highlighted by committee members included a lack of information on the impacts of the scheme on the wider transport network and more information being needed on a proposed Crossbush junction.
Recommendations from the committee will be submitted to the cabinet before a full consultation response is given to National Highways.
The idea of the bypass is generally supported but the committee still has some questions that need to be answered. Although that view isn't shared by everyone.
During the meeting, Chris Oxlade (Lab, Bewbush & Ifield West) said: "We've got a report which basically says we don't have any information, we don't have enough detail to go on but we're being asked to support it in principle.
"It just seems absolutely bizarre that we're being put in this position."
National Highways have told us the bypass would make the A27 at Arundel safer and more reliable.
