Coronavirus: Third West Sussex hospital death in a week
130 people with the virus have now passed away at one NHS trust
The number of coronavirus deaths at West Sussex's main hospital trust has now reached 130.
It's after another patient who tested positive for the virus died earlier this week.
The death was recorded at a site operated by the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on Tuesday (November 3rd).
It's the third death recorded there in a week, following fatalities last Wednesday and on Saturday.
The trust runs St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham.
The victims were among 3,800 deaths recorded across the South East.
Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.
This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.
NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."
In total, 439 people in West Sussex have died within 28 days of contracting the virus in all settings, including care homes, private homes and in hospices.
Mid Sussex has seen the most with 107 deaths, followed by Horsham with 90, Crawley, with 70, Worthing with 58, Arun and Chichester both with 43, and Adur with 28.
As of Friday morning, 6,340 people had tested positive for coronavirus in West Sussex since the start of the pandemic, including 815 in the last seven days.
