Another patient has died at West Sussex's main hospital trust after contracting coronavirus, according to the latest NHS England figures.

The death took place at the Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust on Saturday (October 31st) and brings the total number recorded there since the start of the pandemic to 129.

The trust runs St Richard's Hospital in Chichester, Worthing Hospital and Southlands Hospital in Shoreham.

The death was the second recorded there in the space of four days, with another patient passing away the previous Wednesday (October 28th).

A total of 7,500 deaths with COVID-19 on the death certificate have now been recorded across the South East since the start of the pandemic, according to Public Health England, with 437 taking place in West Sussex within 28 days of a positive test.

Mid Sussex has seen the most with 107 deaths, followed by Horsham with 90, Crawley, with 70, Worthing with 56, Arun and Chichester both with 43, and Adur with 28.

The figures cover deaths in all settings, including hospitals, care homes, private homes and hospices.

Daily death counts are revised each day, with each case backdated to the actual date of death.

This means some of the deaths that were first recorded in the latest period may actually have taken place days earlier.

NHS England guidance states: "Confirmation of Covid-19 diagnosis, death notification and reporting in central figures can take up to several days and the hospitals providing the data are under significant operational pressure."
