Chichester man declares "it's Ricky time" before violent assault

A man who shouted "it's Ricky time" before violently attack a man in Bognor Regis has been jailed for nine years.
Ricky Jeans, 37, unemployed, of Westgate, Chichester, approached a man and a woman sitting on a bench in Hotham Park at around 6:35pm on 19 September 2020 and told them he was in the area to buy drugs.
Following a quick conversation, Jeans became aggressive, looked at his hand a declared "it's Ricky time" and attacked the man. He suffered head and facial injuries that required hospital treatment.
Jeans demanded the woman's belongings but the two managed to run away and contact the police.
That wasn't the only crime Jeans was convicted of.
At around 10.40am on 24 September, he approached a 39-year-old man and told him "empty your pockets or I'm going to smash you with a hammer".
The victim was able to seek refuge in a nearby shop and Jeans was identified and arrested later that evening.
He was charged with robbery, possession of an offensive weapon in public and assault by beating and later pleaded guilty to all charges.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Jordan Holmes, said: “This investigation took place over a number of months and now justice has truly has been served on Ricky Edward Jeans.
“This is an excellent result for the victims and Jeans pleading guilty to all offences, before the trial, indicates his known involvement.
“It's now Ricky's time to serve his sentence.”
