Police have seized a BMW X3 believed to be linked to a string of tool thefts from vehicles across several districts in West Sussex.

The vehicle was recovered from the Horsham area on Monday (May 12), after officers executed a warrant as part of an ongoing investigation into a series of break-ins reported since April 14.

The BMW was found unattended, and police are continuing efforts to identify and locate those connected to it.

The thefts have affected multiple areas, including Horsham, Mid Sussex, and Adur & Worthing, with reports of vehicles being targeted for their tools – a growing concern for local tradespeople and business owners.

Detective Chief Inspector Kay Hutchings acknowledged the public's concern, saying: “We are aware of concerns in the community regarding a spate of tool thefts from vehicles in the area, and we are thankful to everyone who has come forward with information which has enabled us to gather intelligence and execute a warrant for this vehicle seizure."

She added: “We recognise the detrimental impact tool thefts can have on individuals and businesses, not least to those hard-working tradespeople who rely on their tools to make a living."
