Work to replace obsolete traffic signals with new, more reliable and energy-efficient equipment at a busy crossroads in Bognor gets underway on Monday (May 10th).

Temporary traffic lights and a road closure will be in operation during the works, which will last for six weeks, subject to factors such as extreme weather.

The project is taking place to replace existing traffic signals at the crossroads of Chichester Road, Town Cross Avenue and Bersted Street, which are reaching the end of their lifespan.

The new lights will utilise the latest LED technology, which will improve the signals’ reliability, reduce maintenance and save energy.

Bersted Street will be closed for eighteen days, until May 28th, as there is insufficient space for safe working under temporary lights.

A West Sussex County Council spokesperson said:

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused during the work but please bear in mind this project will lead to long-term improvements.

“If possible, road users are advised to seek alternative routes, particularly during peak periods.”

The scheme is estimated to cost about £110,000.
