A burst water main in East Sussex has left homes and a school without water.

The A22 Hailsham Bypass is currently closed to allow engineers to repair the pipe, located between Hailsham Country Park and Lower Dicker.

South East Water say it is trying to fix the outage as quickly as possible, but could not confirm when water supplies would return.

Homes and other premises in the local area have been left without water, including Hellingly Community Primary School which has been closed.

The school said year 6 children should still attend their national curriculum tests, often known as Sats, but should be collected by midday.

All other children have been told they must stay at home.

The problem first started on Monday, but the local area became more affected by water supply issues overnight on Tuesday.

In a statement, South East Water said:

"We're really sorry to those of you who are experiencing low water pressure or no water at the moment. This has been caused by a burst main which we are trying to fix as quickly as we can.

"As soon as the repairs have been completed, your water will return to normal.

"We can't say just yet how long this will take but please rest assured we're doing everything we can to get you back up and running as soon as possible."
